INTRODUCTION
God is Emmanuel in all situations whether we are rich, poor, sick or healthy. Health is better than wealth. God alone gives both. He gives the power to make wealth and the power to prosper his people with sound health. The biblical view of health integrates the physical and the spiritual, and therefore both are needed in the achievement and restoration of health. For Christians, health itself is a virtue that makes possible our victory over sickness and suffering. Health, like all the virtues, is a reflection of the love of God. Indeed, a Christian view of health does not deny that some among us are sick and they will need care, love and the touch of God.
God’s promises stand. He said, “I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.” Although we are aware that complete physical healing may not occur in this lifetime, we also know that God has a plan and a purpose for our lives that are always good.
CONDITIONS
Emotionally, our mindset and negative thoughts and relationship injuries break our hearts. God knows and God cares Psalm 147:3 – He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Proverbs 17:22 – A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. James 5:15 – And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. These are essential faith foundations for healing.
Diabetics, Sickle Cell Disorder, Hepatitis, and Hypertension or hypotension are partly health issues that are a product of family genetics. They are permitted by God and can be well managed by a healthy lifestyle. The suggestions below are given for all of us, since all of us need good health.
- Personal hygiene
The Bible’s main teaching about physical cleanliness appears in Leviticus 11–15. Some of the rules may seem strange and harsh to us. Jesus Christ only stated that neatness outside and cleanliness inside must be balanced when he said “You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.(Matthew 23:25-28)
- Structured diet plan
God promised to bless our water and bread. Food is a factor when it comes to one’s health. “Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength. (Nehemiah 8:10). Food must be our medicine if later in life medicine will not become our food.
- Positive mindset
Faith follows divine leading. Maturity is being calm in the face of tension. Apostle Paul gave us the positive concept of “I can do all things…because “all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28). Avoid faithlessness. Believe in possibilities. Jesus Christ said, “if you believe, you will see the glory of God” (John 11:40).
- Obedience to instructions.
Spiritual, medical and healthy lifestyle instructions must be strictly adhered to. To obey is better than sacrifice. Rejection of medication and addiction to a particular drug is disobedience. Apostle Paul testified about the Church at Philippi, “Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling” (Php.2:12m)
CONCLUSION
To enjoy healing virtues, faith in God through Jesus Christ, obedience to health rules, and seeking professional help early in case there is a noticeable sign of crisis will always be helpful.
Rev. MAC Oladęjo should be commended for his passion to be a blessing. It is a fulfilment of the biblical instruction -“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
